Namrata Mitra, founder of Namrata Weaves

Namrata Mitra, the founder of Namrata Weaves, is a microbiologist who spent eight years teaching biochemistry and microbiology in hospitals. Inspired by the artistry of local fabric workers, she decided to pursue her passion for art and design. Namrata Weaves, named after the weavers’ community, collaborates with artisans to create unique and visually appealing textiles. With eleven years of experience as an artist, Namrata continues to bring her artistic vision to life through her designs.

Namrata Mitra’s Namrata Weaves provides employment opportunities to local artisans by offering them work that utilizes her creative vision. The company has been operating for eleven years and is committed to expanding its team of weavers.

“We all are actually excited about Durga Puja because it’s a time when we all want to look nice, feel good, enjoy the vibe. As a designer and an artist of fabric, I think it’s very important to look minimalistic yet graceful. For me, it has always been the thing. I never believe in overdoing something but yet making that stand out in its own way. The designs of Namrata Weaves will have the fusion of both old and new so that there is a balance in the feel and in the look. Casual, semi-casual, formal, festive; we have it all”, Namrata enthusiastically shared.

Namrata believes that what we call ‘old fashioned’ isn’t actually old fashioned. “Fabrics have always been ‘in’. Their looks may have changed, weaving patterns may have changed, but they can be made to look very trendy. It all depends on how we blend the beauty of history with the modernity of today’s style.”

Namrata Waves has a variety of sarees and fabrics – organza, silks, satin, muslin, chiffons and so on. Their Men’s collection is completely customised. Through a style consultation, one can find out which colours look good on them, which fabric suits them the best, the designs that stand out to them, and more. “From consultation, to the making and delivery, it all happens under the shelter of Namrata Weaves.”
