What is home? Is it a place, a feeling, a collection of memories? TRI Art & Culture‘s latest exhibition, “HOME?! বাড়ি घर گھر”, invites us to ponder these very questions. Opening on January 29th and running until March 30th, 2025, this immersive experience transforms the gallery space into a reflection of our own domestic lives, exploring the familiar through a fantastical lens.
Curated by Lekha Poddar, drawing from the esteemed Devi Art Foundation collection, the exhibition features the work of 20 prominent contemporary Indian artists. From paintings and sculptures to textiles and photography, the diverse mediums weave together a rich tapestry of interpretations on the theme of home. Everyday objects are reimagined, imbued with new meaning and presented in unexpected forms, prompting us to reconsider the spaces we inhabit and the objects we surround ourselves with.

Adding another layer of depth to the experience, the artwork is accompanied by poetic excerpts in Bangla, Hindi, Urdu, and English. These verses, carefully chosen, resonate with the visual narratives, creating a dialogue between words and images that amplifies the emotional impact of the exhibition.

The setting itself adds a unique dimension to “HOME?! বাড়ি घर گھر”. Housed in a beautifully restored private residence at 53/2/2 Hazra Road, Ballygunge, the building’s history echoes the themes explored within the exhibition. This transformation from a family home to a space dedicated to art and culture feels particularly poignant, especially as TRI Art & Culture celebrates its first anniversary. For Poddar, whose family roots lie in Calcutta, this exhibition also marks a personal homecoming, adding another layer of intimacy to the project.
“HOME?! বাড়ি घरگھر”, is more than just an art exhibition; it’s an invitation. An invitation to explore the multifaceted nature of home, to consider its sensory dimensions – the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and feelings that define it. It’s a chance to reflect on what “home” means to each of us individually.

TRI Art & Culture, a non-profit multidisciplinary art center, continues to push the boundaries of creative expression. Through its rotating exhibitions and diverse programming, TRI fosters a vibrant hub for artistic exploration. This exhibition is a testament to this mission, offering a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant experience for all who visit.
The exhibition is free and open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, 11 am to 7 pm. Discover the art of home, and perhaps, rediscover a little bit about yourself in the process.
